Well okay, so it doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would.
As a matter of fact, with 31 gauge needles and only 3/8" long, I don't even feel them at all.
Still, we're using the best of modern science on me to get insulin into me, and it's the best insulin for my lifestyle. The insulin itself is generically called insulin glargine and is marketed under the brand name Lantus. It is a 24 hour, once a day shot, which is much easier for me to deal with than most of the other regimens that that typically come along with being on insulin. As for the syringe itself, I'm using a pen syringe, which holds a cartridge of Lantus, and delivers it through a disposable needle. This is good in that I don't have to worry about figuring dose or setting up a syringe properly - I'm told a pain in the neck.
I seem to be seeing some results, too. Slowly, my fasting blood glucose level (which should be between 80 - 120) is dropping from about 300 or so (way too high), to the low 200's and even the occasional mid 100's. This is very good progress. :) And I'm also losing some weight, too, which I'm told is supposed to happen.
